connected

I did it -- I bought a new computer. I had been thinking for a while that I wanted/needed a new computer -- my old one had served me well (she was nearly 10 years old), but was starting to peter out toward the end of my living in Arizona.

Firstly, my old computer didn't have a built-in wireless card (gasp!). Can you even imagine!? So I was using an external one, and the driver died on that. And it was bogged down with useless nonsense.

Fast forward 7 months ... My school just ordered me new software for the swim team, which came on a CD. On Sunday morning last, I tried to install it into my old computer, AND THE CD DRIVE WOULDN'T WORK! Oh the horror!

Now, I had been looking here and there for something, but didn't have my heart set on anything particular (other than a macbook, but that just doesn't seem feasible right now...). So I decided, on a bit of a whim, to check out the Circuit City near my work, which is going out of business (which they all are). And lo and behold, they were all mucho marked down, and I got the floor model of a shiny new Sony Viao (which is what my trusty old one was). So here I am, connected wirelessly from the comfort of my own bed. Life is good.

It's hard to imagine a time when the Internet wasn't around. I remember we got our first computer when I was in the 6th grade. The internet was fairly new. I wonder if whoever came up with the internet ever even imagined what it could become...

So hopefully with my new found connectivity (perhaps the only perk of my apartment complex is free wifi) I will keep this updated more. That's a big if though ... my life seems to be getting busier and busier as we speak.

I'm now the head swimming coach for both the boys and girls team at my school. Although incredibly rewarding, it's also a huge time-sucker. I'm gone for roughly 15 hours every day -- and when meets start (our first is Wednesday) it will only get worse. But, I have the privilege of coaching a great group of kids. It's the biggest group of kids the school's had in a while -- I blame Michael Phelps (in fact every night as I say my prayers, I curse Michael Phelps, for giving me 20 swimmers who can't swim all 4 strokes, but want to know how their times compare to Michaels...ugh!).

I'm also still super busy going down to Columbus 2 weekends a month to work at the temple there. It's so rewarding, and I love going, but again, a huge time-sucker. In fact, I just looked at the calendar -- and I don't have a single free day until Christmas Eve (my first day off is Christmas Eve). Looks like I'll be cyber-shopping this year.

Anyway, I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was spectacular -- and I wish everyone the happiest of holiday seasons coming up!
