Ghost Stories?

For the week, I'm watching over my sister's house, and our family dog while they vacation in Florida (in this tough economy they decided to go for Florida, and not Fiji, or some other tropical island).  Sometime in the two previous weeks, my sister and her husband called 9-1-1 because they heard a strange noise in the night.

They were lying in bed, with the fan and TV on, and they heard what they described as a marble rolling between the walls.  They snatched the baby from his room, called 9-1-1, searched the crawl space, and did a thorough check of the house (as a side note: I was looking for some chap stick in my sister's nightstand, and found a large kitchen knife in the drawer.  Now, they're either doing something really strange ... or this was a remnant of the ghost incident?  I'm hoping for the latter.)

Not only did they hear a marble in the wall, Ryan also said that he heard, what he describes as a metal coat hanger being dragged against the wall.  The kicker is this:  when he knocked on the wall, there were three distinct knocks back at him.  Yikes!

They always say that ghosts like babies (heaven only knows why).  So I agreed to watch the house only if they told the ghost to go on vacation with them.  Night number one was a success, no weird noises.  Then, Sunday night, at about 5am I woke up to a noise that sounded like .. you guessed it, marbles rolling in the walls.  I didn't get out of bed and knock on the wall (for various reasons, but top on the list was that the furnace pooped out and it was 50 degrees in the house), so I didn't know if it would knock back.

My explanation, that I'm sticking to, is that it was a mouse.  I googled the noise on my blackberry as I was laying in bed, and I was surprised to find that this was a common noise that people hear -- and while many people were quick to jump on the "ghost" bandwagon, I read a few posts that said it was probably a mouse.  So there.
