Dear Subway...

Dear Subway ...

Thank you for providing me, for years, with a healthy alternative to a greasy burger and fries found at other fast food joints. A customer's permutation-possibilities are endless, on account of your assortment of fresh veggies and condiments to dress up your sandwich.

When we first met, I was a young girl in BV,OH, and you were one of the few dining options in our humble town. Of course there was the Bamboo House, but that was a sit-down restaurant, who didn't offer free refills on soda (which was served in glass glasses -- far too sophisticated for a 10-year-old's taste). Then there was the DQ, a hometown staple, who was known for their hot dogs and BBQ sandwiches. While I love me a hot dog (the BBQ always scared me, and especially after my 5 year employment stint where I witnessed this culinary phenomenon first-hand. yikes!) one can only eat a hot dog so often, and even then, ketchup is strictly the only condiment allowed.

Now, when you rolled into town, Subway, you were easy assessable to any 10-year-old on a bike, in the heart of town. You lured us in with your fresh ingredients. I admit, I was a sucker for your cold cut combo (which changed to a cold cut trio, and back to a cold cut combo --hello, identity crisis!) but now fancy the turkey. Your greens are always crispy, your pickles tangy, your tomatoes and cucumbers evenly sliced; in a word, heaven. You put an absurd amount of mayo on my sandwich, which I pretended like I minded, but really, slather it on!

And your bread, oh good gravy boat!, your bread. What you are known for. Baked fresh daily, always soft, inviting the yummy goodness to be piled on high. And about that bread...

Why can I NEVER walk out of your store without smelling like your bread?!? Even when I go into your establishment for 5 minutes, I stink like your bread.
For.
The.
Rest.
Of.
The.
Day.
While I normally love the smell of fresh baked bread, and who doesn't?, there are just some days where I don't want to smell like bread. And some days mean every day.

Sincerely,
-kj
