Many of you may know that one of the contestants on The Biggest Loser this year used to work at the school that I currently work at. In fact, I took over her classroom and part of her schedule.Because of the nature of the show, when you're asked to be on it, you pretty much just have to up-and-leave. You can't tell anyone that you're going, and it's all a sort of shady operation (I liken it to going into the Witness Protection Program -- only you're losing massive amounts of weight in the process). With that said, this contestant had to leave in the middle of the school year, and not provide an "adequate" reason for her leaving (our principal knew the real reason).
The majority of the staff is kind and nice, but apparently people didn't really like this teacher. I never knew her, I just hear of her infamous legacy.
The point of all this is: I was in the copy room this morning copying some quizzes for my classes today when a conversation occurred that sounded something like this:
Teacher #1: "Hey, did you watch The Biggest Loser?"
Teacher #2: "No, but Cathy told me ALL about it"
#1: "Yeah, I flip through occasionally, but she doesn't deserve my attention."
Teacher #3: "She cries in EVERY episode!"
#2: "Everyone else on her team is losing like 10 pounds each week and she's only losing 2 or 3, I think she's stashing food in her back pocket."
And the conversation continues like this. They won't even mention her name, like she doesn't deserve to be talked about, yet they are. From what I understand she didn't really click with the staff, but I think it's despicable that they're treating her this way, regardless if she's still employed here or not.
I think it's great that she took time to do something for herself and to get healthy (it's also an added bonus that I got a job here too because she wasn't here...).
