Lake Washington
Once every few weeks our school, and frankly all of the Phoenix area partake in a ritual known as "irrigation." To those in the rest of the modern world, this is their form of watering. Since we don't get much rain and apparently it's too expensive to use sprinklers, every two weeks they basically flood all of the grassy areas on campus to water them. When this first occurred I really didn't know what to make of it. It had happened right after a big monsoon and I thought that the ground just didn't absorb the water very well. Au contrere, this is planned.
While it does leave the grass lush and green, it also attracts bugs and it STINKS like your toilet overflowed with stuff that had been stewing in it for a few days. It's not the most pleasant smell, especially whilst trying to learn/teach.
In other news: I am almost officially done with my first quarter of teaching! Can you even believe it? I know I cannot. It's been a bit stressful this week, trying to get a bunch of seniors with a massive bought of Senioritis to turn in work. A root canal sans novicane might be better.
This week is Spirit Week because tomorrow is the Homecoming game! Yahoo! All week kids have been dressing up and the like. Yesterday was "sports day," and so I sported the scarlet and grey (Go Bucks!). I did receive a few "boos" from the Michigan fans.
I'll be chaperoning the Homecoming dance this Saturday with Shelby. My maid of honor ensemble is at the cleaners as we speak! I think I'll just be wearing the skirt, nevertheless, it's exciting to be able to wear an outfit for a wedding again. I feel so thrifty!
One more random picture to leave you with:

I took this after I got out of my car from work. We don't often see clouds here (really, it's blue skies 99% of the time). But, when it is cloudy, I'm in the best mood ever. They're big puffy "Ohio" clouds. They're beautiful and gorgeous, especially atop the mountains. (I better be careful, I'm making it sound like I might actually like the scenery here...)

that water flooding thing is bizarro. can't they just accept that they don't live in a climate that's suppossed to have green grass? meh.
go homecoming! make sure those kids have at least a baloon between them. or is it a bible. or a phone book. whatever. and congrats on being thrifty!
