evidence of learning

I sometimes doubt the difference I make in my students lives. Will they one day be able to recite Shakespeare at will (pun!)? Will they remember the difference between connotation and denotation? Probably not.

However, the following 2-line conversation, overheard by yours truly in the hallway last week, tells me that someone in the Social Studies department has really been touching lives:

Kid #1: "Man, gimme back mines dolla you owe me!"
Kid #2: "N*gga, don't you know we's in a recession?!"
