being taken seriously

I love the Olympics just as much as the next guy, but as I was watching the Men's figure skating competition, I wondered how anyone could take them seriously? I mean, with outfits like these:

I just don't get it. I understand that they are incredible athletes and what they do is difficult, but how can you take someone (or a sport) seriously when looking like this?

I suppose it isn't much better than the speed skating uniforms. Or a Speedo for that matter. But it just seems to me like there has to be a better option than this.

Incidentally, as I was thinking that I wanted to do a post about this very subject, it was all the talk on NPR today. Check out the transcript here.

Summer Olympics will remain my favorite, but I am enjoying these games. Although, really, every sport in the Winter Olympics is dangerous. Like lose-your-life dangerous (like the poor luger). No one is safe in the Winter Olympics, and I'll just sit and watch from the sidelines.

Oh sweetie, these outfits are THE reason why I so anxiously wait for the mens figure skating coverage. I mean, come on! They're FABULOUS!

Kerrie, this is why I love you. You blog about about what I think. The first picture posted, priceless!

Those aren't NEARLY as bad as the Russian ice dancer's aboriginal costumes. So, so offensive. Give me Johnny Weir's feathers any day.
