Now, it's not so important that I be able to get on facebook at work -- that makes me sound addicted, which I am not. [As a side note, since I got a new phone that doesn't have the internet, I feel so much more free, not so attached, to email and facebook and the weather and of the other things that weighed me down. It's been nice.]
I guess I'm more excited to have discovered a wifi connection that isn't run by the school. We have a pretty stingy filter (it's called "Bess" and the logo is a dog, which has caused some of my coworkers to call her "The Bitch," you know, like the female dog) and can't see much of anything on our computers. Even personal email sites are blocked, which is a pain. We can't get any kind of YouTube or blog, which really blows when you're trying your darnedest to be a young, fun, technology savvy teacher. It's really cutting in on my swag.
So where does this wifi connection come from, asks you? Well I discovered the connection on my iPod touch while I was in the staff bathroom (please, stop wondering why I was on my iPod in the staff bathroom, that is not important at this time). Because of the construction going on for our new school, I would imagine that the trailer that houses the main office for the construction company would require a wireless internet connection. This staff bathroom I was using just so happens to be feet from said trailer. This is so refreshing and exciting to know that I can get on to an untainted internet connection. The possibilities are endless!
And if you'll excuse me, I'll be in the 2nd floor staff bathroom in the Washington Building.
